Transfer Case ???

So my Trans is leaking Trans fluid into my Transfer case..Bad seal. So thinking something like bad bearing or bushing on transfer case input was shaft caused the seal damage. At 138k was thinking of finding a low mileage used case or a rebuilt. Any thoughts Thanks.

If you do decide to get a rebuild try Transfercaseexpress.com . But how much fluid are we talking? It will leak "some" as in a few drips every oil change or so thats normal , Mine did for years After replacing seal after seal

I wish I would have know about this place. I paid $810 to have some local guy rip me off when I could have gotten a rebuilt and upgraded transfer case from this place =\

Yup with a 2 year warranty unlimited miles , I haven't had any issues and by the way I want to say thats them Buying your core and paying shipping both ways In 2 days time I thought they were pretty awesome

Thanks for the heads up on that supplier. I was talking about the seal between trans and case letting trans fluid go into transfer case then come out transfer case vent. Drained it down to correct level and has been okay for 400miles. maybe i'll see how long it takes to leak into transfer case then replace or not

Hey boaterbob,

Did you find resolve to this issue? Seems my 2004 Denali may have this issue now, At 188,500 I was changing transfer case oil. Took out the fill plug and oil came pouring out. Besides the spillage when draining I measured two quarts and 20 ounces. I refilled to overflowing 1.5 quarts which is specification.
Then I checked the trans fluid (which was serviced two years ago at 150K) and its down maybe a quart and a half. That is a considerable leak and leaks nowhere else. I am thinking its leaking into the transfer case.

Sounds like your rear seal on your TRANSMISSION is your problem, not the transfer case. The way those lip seals work is they keep the fluid inside the case from escaping. They arent very good for fluid up against the seal lip trying to flow into the case.

There is NO external oil leak. 8K miles ago I checked the fluid levels (transfer case incl) and at the fill hole is was just below the top. When I opened the fill hole this time (to change) oil came gushing out. I have heard of this before on a different vehicle.

The ONLY explanation as to why your transfer case is over filled 8k miles later and that is your rear seal on your transmission is leaking fluid into your front seal of your transfer case. Its not an uncommon problem at all. To fix it you will have to drop your transfer case and remove and replace your rear tranny seal and it wouldnt be a bad idea to replace your front seal of the transfer case. Check and refill your fluid level of your tranny. Dont want to waste a transmission!
