V4/V8 issues

Trying to understand the best way to keep my 2015 Tahoe LTZ in V8 mode versus shifting back and forth to V4. I have seen plug in for it but hoping to get some more insight into other options. Mind you I have no car experience so if you could tell me in woman’s terms. Lol

There is a lot of good information on here about this topic. All of it took time for us to write and refine, as a group. Please honor that effort, and us, by using the search function to find and review the information available.

Short answer:
1/ You can buy a Range device that plugs into your OBD2 port.
2/ You can have AFM/DoD tuned out in your engine computer. @BlackBearPerf can help you with this.
3/ You can delete the AFM/DoD hardware inside the engine with a new cam and lifters. Search for either AFM delete or DoD delete.

There are a lot of forums out there, but you stumbled into a good one. Great info here and the cylinder deactivation issues have been covered for over 15 years now, to include several solutions as stated above.

For better or worse, we all started out knowing very little. In college, I knew how to change oil and that was about it. But, necessity proved to be a great (if often impatient) teacher. :p

My dad worked with the very early ENIAC computers at the end of WWII, and told the story of how the things were programmed by women. The men would show up to hobnob with execs and gov't big shots, and take them all out to dinner and drinks while the women solved the complex equations that made the things actually work. We have women here who can run circles around me, rebuilding transmissions and such.

I grew up in a garage with my Grandfather. I have always been around mechanics. Still to this day I love the smell of concrete and oil! I owned a Honda Civic that burnt more oil than gas..... was always fouling out the plugs, so my Grandfather taught me how to clean my own. He gave me a spark plug wrench some sandpaper and a Bobby pin. Worked like a charm, he also made sure I had a case of oil in the back too! Lol The head finally blew, but it was one of my greatest gifts from him!
He also taught me to always know every sound and vibration your car makes so you’ll always know if something isn’t right! It has served me well, even when dealing with garages that think women know nothing!

I am glad that you are a woman, because when I first saw your comments about women, I thought Mmmmmmm, that's a bit rough, as there are a number of woman who are members of this Forum, and many of them use tools as well. :)

No insult intended, but hurry up and disable Engine Half@$$ / V4 mode at your first possible opportunity, then understand it later if you like.
Besides the three techniques cited by Geotrash, there may be a 4th, cheaper option; involves disconnecting a vacuum hose, wish I knew more, someone here does.

For now, if you manually use the shifter to avoid 'final' gear (don't know if it's 6th or 8th, 'cause I don't know if you've a 6L80 or 8L90?),
your engine will spend much less time Half@$$ing in V4 mode.
