Take a look underneath and see if you have axles going to the front hubs. If not, your VIN decoder is wrong.

Can't remember for sure but I thought AWD Tahoes had only the pocket. Look underneath and see if you have a transfer case, front diff, and CV axles.

Yes, my AWD Yukon also has the pocket, but the VIN decoder clearly says that it is AWD and not 4x4.

@Sherrod Lewis, what results do you get when you put your VIN into this decoder? http://chevroletforum.com/forum/vindecoder.php
He hasn't answered back yet but I would venture to guess it said AWD and he interpreted that as 4WD, or the VIN coder is wrong. It is pretty easy to find out, just look underneath.

5th letter of the Vin denotes Chassis. GM Truck chassis 1/2 ton C=RWD (AKA 2wd) or K=4wd or AWD Covers Tahoe, Yukon, Sierra, Silverado, Suburban, Yukon XLT and all the other variants of that chassis. (I cant keep up with all the various names but they are the same chassis)

Mine is an AWD drive but I do have the selector switch which allows me to drop into 4Lo, the selector switch that came in the truck does not state 2wd, 4Hi, and 4Lo it shows stabilitrak on one button, a pic of the front wheels turning left with the axle to the rear wheels for the second button, and the third is a 4 with an arrow pointing down. I have not seen a selector switch on any of the websites for that particular switch for replacement. So I am hoping that switch does not go out any time in the future. Not sure if I could use a standard selector switch in its place.
