3 hrs! to set backlash. Got it to .009. Its all buttoned up will start in morning. Crossing fingers
Way to go- better done right than done quickly. Did you ever identify what parts broke?

Yeah it was just the G80 locking up in 1st gear when I spun the tires and destroyed the spider gears. Now that I see how it works, it's really amazing it lasted even this long.

Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No noise, no binding just silky smooth. Took me almost as long as my engine swap, but I am glad I took my time and learned to do it correctly. If I had to do it again, I could get it done in a few hours.

Can anyone recommend jumper cables? The 8 gauge ones from walmart didn't work. They have thicker ones, would that be worth it?

Next thing I gotta figure out is why my brakes are god awful. When I took the rear rotors off it didn't even look like they were being activated. I recently did a front/rear brake swap with stoptech pads/rotors and a full brake bleed.

Can anyone recommend jumper cables? The 8 gauge ones from walmart didn't work. They have thicker ones, would that be worth it?
I'd def go with the thickest cables you can find. My Tahoe doesn't like thin jumper cables either.

I consider 6 gauge to be the bare minimum. Gotta have good clamps, too. I can't say where to get a particularly good set as I've just stumbled upon the good ones I have, such as finding the ones in my jack compartment left by the previous owner. Totally left up to me, I'd order some nice clamps off Amazon and make my own cables with welding lead.

I bought a 4 Gauge 20 ft set of jumper cables a while back off Amazon. I think they were labeled Amazon Choice.

It was like $25 shipped to me. They seem to work fine.

I'd replace bearings and seals since you've gone this far. Might as well.

Unfortunately didn't have time for this. I actually finished everything up literally 5 minutes before a thunderstorm came in with high winds.

Now that I know how it all works, it will be easy for future job. Just ***** to drain the gear oil again, that stuff stinks.

Woohoo! Congrats!

On the jumper cables, I keep a battery booster in the back of both of my rigs, and they've saved my bacon (and others') probably a dozen times. Haven't used jumper cables in years.

Mine are from Harbor Freight, but if I had to buy them now I would go with the appropriate Noco from Amazon. Project Farm tested them out on Youtube and the Noco was a winner.
