Welp broke something serious

The hangup today was finding proper driver for the bearing. Socket i had would work until the bearing was flush with housing. Bearing has yo go slightly below so i ran around looking for tools.

The ball joint press kit had a sleeve that worked perfectly.

Take your old bearing/race and slice it with cutoff wheel, deburr edges. That will give you another 1/2 inch of push.

I do but they didnt have anything with a big enough hole that would clear the diff

Good tip. Luckily on this job i didnt have to remove old bearings.

Diff is in. Got backlash of .013 so will shim it in a bit further. Hopefully all done by tonight.

The adjustable shims are real nice.

3 hrs! to set backlash. Got it to .009. Its all buttoned up will start in morning. Crossing fingers

I am f'ing impressed!!! So many are apprehensive of differentials because of the pressing/measuring and you got through it with minimal setbacks and minimal tooling.

I'll find out once I get the car jumped. Accidentally left the keys in all night after I put it into neutral to spin the driveshaft.
