I tried contact cement, as it's commonly recommended for bonding leather and plastic. But it softened in the summer heat and eventually let go.

I decided to swap to a non-wood heated wheel. They're mostly out of stock. But every now and then, a few pop up at some vendors. I lucked out and grabbed one just a few months ago. Easy swap. Took less time to change than re-gluing the old insert.

I've had two parts guys post locates since late july...both confirmed that there are four in existence, but all are spoken for and they couldn't get anyone to give one up at any price within reason. One sold on ebay in late August. That seems to be it.

It basically takes a miracle of luck to get one.

I found yesterday that 3M 1080 "Scotchprint" vinyl in "titanium" is an exact match for the Z71 "brushed aluminum" trim. So I have ordered some of that and i'm wrapping the spokes and trim ring on my Escalade wheel to match the rest of the trim. I'll see how I feel about that when its done and then decide if I want to stick with it or go ahead with the custom leather.

Thanks, where did you find it?
I got it from gmpartshouse.com back in May. Part number 22947767. Read through this thread below. It has links to multiple potential vendors, as well as the luck by which I got mine:

https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/steering-wheel-question.111842/

You'll notice I got to the same sad state of depression, thinking I'd never get one. Then BAM...3 showed up at one vendor. Luckily I was able to get one of them before they got snapped up.

If all else fails, I'd search eBay for a used one and get it recovered if necessary. The non-wood one is a little fatter, and doesn't have the groove in it for the ring. So it's a better starting point than recovering your old one.

Out of curiosity, I was poking around on eBay, and ran across this black leather wheel for a Hummer:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/25995628-S...:sLkAAOSwFGxdAO6H:sc:USPSPriority!29369!US!-1

It looks like it would fit. And the button arrangement looks the same as my Yukon, except for two extra buttons on the left side rear. It might be worth researching to see if it's compatible. The connectors look identical. So it might actually be plug-and-play. It's <$200, too.

Finished it up over the weekend. I'm happy with this so i'll stick with it.
