v6 trucks/suvs are very minimal in better mpg if at all compared to v6s. My first truck was a v6 Dakota, that's when I knew with a V8 I would only be spending pennies more on gas lol , so exactly like you...why not get the extra 100 hps
I had a V6 Sporttrac, which I really liked, fun little truck. Then it started throwing oil everywhere. Because of a TERRIBLE design, there are two timing chains, and they are held in place by a 0.5" Vinyl pin. if the front one breaks, its 5 dollars and some dirty hands to fix, if the rear one breaks, you have to pull the engine to fix.
I made it look really good, got it running, and traded for the Tahoe. I'll never own a Ford 4.0 again. In anything. Ever.
