I received my second set of switchbacks, and I wanted to verify how the DRL socket was wired.
I plugged the switchbacks into the DRL socket, and it lights up yellow for turn signal.
The socket is only a two wire socket, so they are using the turn signal filament only for the DRL bulbs.
What is it with GM? They seem to like to waste filaments in bulbs.
My '04 Monte Carlo used the same bulbs our trucks use, and was setup with brakes and parking lights on the bottom position, and and turn signals only in the top.
I put in a new three wire pigtail in the tops, and wired up the parking light wire to the bottom socket to add the parking light to the top.
If you are going to use the same bulbs, why not have parking lights top and bottom? I'd do that mod on my Yukon XL if I hadn't already put on aftermarket LED tails.
Come Saturday, my turn signals and DRLs are getting totally re-wired. I'm going to convert the DRL socket to a second turn signal, but also have the DRLs run the parking light on the front (with diodes to prevent back-feeding).
