not sure if this would work but easy off oven cleaning does amazing things, haven't tried it on any plastic chrome before but we used to use it to take paint off of aluminum/alloy, heard some people use it to counterfeit money as well by soaking lower denomination bills and then reprinting them in larger notes, it then passes the pen test and a quick glance it passes the strip test, lol not that I have ever done that  just word of mouth.....

I accidently started to peel the chrome off with a low pressure car wash sprayer. I was removing plastidip and thought the black was plastidip but actually it was the black plastic under the chrome doh!

Not sure how effective it would be but thought I would share.

I've used easy off oven cleaner on headlight housings but I feel like this chrome is different than shat headlights have. They almost have a chrome paint this is like aluminum foil lol. When I get home I'll post pics of the carnage

Tried the Easy Off heavy duty, it had zero effect. I see it used on model pieces but that must be different fake chrome.

Tried that too. It only removes it in places where it’s flaking off anyway. If you got enough pressure to strip good chrome it would quickly eat the soft plastic underneath. Like I said, I tried every known trick and every idea. Heat gun? Tried it. Worked in a few areas but the point where it’s hot enough to make the chrome bubble happens to be the same temp the plastic melts. I tried glancing passes with the gun but there would be areas where the chrome wouldn’t bubble so I’d hit it a bit more and the chrome would still be stuck and the plastic melted.

Got a little bored and decided to swap out the rear Cig outlet with a Quickcharge USB outlet, did the same thing to my center console a while ago since those plug in USB chargers crap out quickly, wanted to do this since I camp in my Burban during music festivals and can monitor my battery while I'm sleeping in it.

I was able to get a razor under it and peel it off in sheets

This is awesome! How hard was it? Did you cut off whatever plug/harness was installed from the factory and crimp some blade connectors on?
