Did some more tinkering with mine to get it how I want it! Installed footwell lights on my 04 suburban, installed the LED diode mod so that I don’t have dim map/cargo/vanity lights, added a 3/4” rear coil spacer to correct the driver side lean, and tightened my parking brake cable by adding a bushing to the nut adjuster. Only thing is now I have a random click/clunk at what sounds like my front driver side when taking off from a stop after the coil spacer so maybe the spring is just settling in.

Been going crazy the last few years making my tahoe like new again.
Finally knocked out the driver side rocker. What a PITA. I used a rocker I had cut out of some guys suburban he was parting out.
Next is the passenger side but that one isn't bad at all just a couple holes, might only take a couple hours, gonna use part of a slip on rocker.
Not perfect but it is going to last!

Next on the list is new front and rear bumpers, all black, 2500hd conversion up front, and S&B body mounts.
Also replacing the pitman arm, the last piece I replaced basically everything else in the steering and suspension.
I tightened up my gear box, what a difference that made, but I think I can tighten it a little more. How tight should my steering be? There is a tad bit of play but not sure what is the normal amount.
I need a good alignment it is definitely not dialed in, still a little camber on driver wheel, but after all that is done I am finishing up with 18" silverado takeoffs and probably some mich defenders 275/65r18

What a journey this has been
Nice job on the rockers! I have to buy a welder and put this on my list for spring time. Did you weld in inners or just outers? What was the source for the new parts?

I cut the whole rocker out of a suburban someone was parting out. I left the pinch welds at the bottom where the inner meets the outer, and cut it to fit with an overlap along the inside. The inside isn't pretty, but it is welded in good and any gaps filled with seam sealer. I sprayed a rust treatment inside the rocker before welding it up, then rattle canned it all.

I just got a slip on rocker from mill supply delivered, and I am going to patch the small holes in my passenger side next. Thankfully it was no where near as bad as my driver side.
I am going to take off all the plastic and inspect the wheel wells and clean it up and spray some rust converter and paint them, they aren't rotted out but need to prevent it from happening.

So I FINALLY thought I had all my ducks in a row, to get the TA Performance rear end girdle installed, and the QA1 panhard bar to get around it, AD583D0C-AFA3-44FB-8673-278972DB0601.jpegand got into it this (late) afternoon. Back is still a train wreck, but thought I’d git ‘r done tonight. Well, I fawked up, and did not verify my bolts first. TA sends a SAE kit with the cover, and of course mine are metric. So, it’s apart and ready for some bolts.. ha! And of course I waited until Friday evening to figure it out. I hope they’re in the shop on Saturday, so I can call and overnight a set, but not holding my breath. Argh..
The gears looks great to me, but there was a good amount of magnetic “grease”’on the magnet .. nothing larger than the grease though. No bits or anything. Does that look like a lot..? Had the diff fluid replaced probably about 20-25k ago.

I'm certainly not an expert on the metal issue but that doesn't look bad at all to me.

When I worked at Caterpillar (Chillicothe, IL) making bulk hydraulic hose, the winding machines used both metric and SAE hardware. We never knew what we were going to run into there. The pic below is what looks like an ancient one; ours were newer and had more shields (of course). They also had four or six of those spool decks in series; we made 4-layer, 6-layer, or 10-layer hose. The 10 layer hose went through a 6-layer line, then through a 4-layer setup. 52 feet at time. Fully loaded decks wouldn't last an 8 hour shift, so we could always count on having to replace them.

That glob of grey is nothing to worry about.
