Ok got them scrubbed. I got 2 rims that are pickling ( soaking in vinegar ) here a picture of the junk yard find . I got 2 of the 4 painted with coat of rust reformer on back side . Front got a down to metal
Sanding and coat sandable primer it's drying tomorrow wet sanding and another coat of primer if needed before color . [emoji106]

Going with gloss black and coat clear coat . Should look pretty hardcore.

Steel wheels are must for max towing . And why destroy aluminum rims on a Minnesota winter. 78a75401961b20e099c250935e6143ae.jpg40e292da0b92dc307e9a19a4d31683da.jpgae5857679c7db09710c5abcd008422b9.jpg

What does soaking in vinegar do? Neutralizes the rust? Never heard of doing that before.

But remember it's a in service Yukon XL . It will be a MAX towing machine. [emoji41][emoji106][emoji3] We're going to knock on the limits .. next week there going on .
Trailer being built it involves 3 -7000 pound axles.
We'll find the towing limits. [emoji106]

Let me know how it does. I will be towing my 2000 Donzi 35ZF to the storage yard in about 3 weeks. Its about 9500 lbs. The drive is about 30 miles....

White vinegar will not neutralize the rust but will dissolve it. Helps get to bare metal.
I use Evap-o-rust, which they carry at Wal-Mart and Harbor Freight. Just let it soak for a few days and the rust is gone. Unlike acid, it doesn't touch the bare steel. The stuff is a bit expensive (~$10/gal), but can be reused a bunch of times.

I FINALLY got my new wheels and tires mounted. They're Escalade Platinum edition 22s, custom powder coated a color I call hyper grey. The Caddy center caps will get replaced soon. And ignore how dirty the truck is. Now all I need to do is add lowness (and trim my bushes...sheesh!).
