Got the burb back from the muffler shop and the new gasket and arp bolts are in. I'm not sure if I keep catching bad breaks or what but they somehow screwed up the remflex gasket. I'm not sure if this shop is incompetent or I just keep getting dealt a crap hand but they claimed the gasket 'blew out' on the test drive. I'm pretty confident they installed it wrong, and over torqued it.

Anyhow the arp bolts are in.

I guess my question is this. Are the standard copper gasket one time use only? I'm considering going back in and loosening and retorquing the bolts to the proper spec and maybe getting another remflex set.

Operation Quiet Down is entering phase 2. My U channel weatherstrip for the leading edge of the rear door lower arrived on Saturday but it rained so much no chance to install. I will put it on today. Wish I had a DB meter so I could measure. the before and after. I have some dynamat I hope I dont have to use it. Its a pain pulling door panels off.

I downloaded a free app: Decibel X. I don't know how accurate it is with actual Db values, but that wouldn't matter in this case. You'd just need to travel the same road at the same speed with the A/C on the same settings and phone in the same location before and after the weatherstrip installation.

It’s really hard to destroy remflex gaskets. They are thick graphite compressible gaskets. I’ve used them before and really torqued the headers down with the thinner flange on a SBC. Idk what they did but these gaskets are very hard to blow out like the paper ones.

My only thought is, is that they pocketed them for their own use, and put the standard stuff on mine. I still only paid about 30% of retail on this repair.

You would notice if remflex gaskets where used. They are about 1/4” thick before compression. Take a pic. They are oversized too so they conform to the manifold and seal up. You should see a bulge around it. Graphite gray color.

Edit: Can anyone find the ones for ls exhaust manifold? I only found header style. DT headers and anything else that’s 1-7/8. Nothing for manifolds. If the used the header style on a manifold that could explain why.

Oh I know they didn't use them. I checked under the hood first thing.

I haven't done anything to mine. But I've started to hear the telltale clunk of a broken motor mount. So that's coming soon.

In other news, last night my nephew stopped by the house to pick up something. He left his vehicle running. It had a nice, deep lopey idle. I started to ask what he was driving, and did a double-take, as it was his NBS Escalade. He'd put an aftermarket cam, long tubes and an aftermarket muffler on it. Wow. I really liked it. Got me thinking...maybe the broken mount and exhaust manifold bolts are a sign. :D:D:D
Maybe? No maybe about it! That’s fate right there!
