I forgot to drain my catch can when I was under there yesterday, changing the alternator, so today I did. Been about a month, zilch, nada, the null set, the empty set. I guess things are working fine under there... :)

That's it, big deal, right?

My can has been catching a bit.
Not a ton, but i can get a nice little oil spot on a paper towel under the drain valve.

I also have the valve covers that have the tsb.

I thought about upgrading them while the engine was apart, but decided i wanted to see how the can did...

I also have the high flow high pressure milling pump.
I used the stock pressure spring, but shimmed .079.

I can totally pin the oil pressure gauge @ about 5200k rpm.
Seems to get more oil in there when i do that.
:D

Later I'll probably do the upgrade, should be interesting to see the difference.

On a side note, first drain had fluid that was oily but totally clear.

I'm thinking it was related to the break-in additive i used with the new camshaft install.

The hole in the cover was relocated because the original one was right in line with oil squirting from the pushrod and flicking off of the rocker. With the high oil pressure at higher RPM, it's probably gonna get more there. I'd definitely do the cover rather than rely on the catch can so much. At least if the cover keeps it outta the catch can, the oil stays in the engine.

I had both the AFM Pressure relief valve oil deflector and new design valve cover installed at about 95K when they replaced the pistons and rings (GM paid for the parts and my dealer cut me a pretty nice deal on the labor).

Not sure exactly what new components are responsible for what on the lack of oil accumulation in the catch can though. My oil pressure has always been on the high side (may have been part of why my particular engine stuck the rings so bad, maybe the uncovered pressure relief valve was spraying a lot, who knows?).

I wasn't actually surprised about the lack of oil in the catch can though. I keep a pretty close eye on the oil level and since the new valve cover, pressure relief valve deflector and pistons and rings (2+ years, about 35K), she uses almost nothing between changes.

Also, I drive like a granny.

Well, i decided to do my 500 mile oil change post new camshaft, lifters, oil pump, rebuilt rockers, and timing chain.

I bought one of those oil filter cutting tools...
Noticed my somewhat clean drain pan showed the same brass colored sparkles that i saw before this all started...

so i cut open the filter,

Engine sounds great, much better after i replaced everything.
Maybe I'm loosing a crank bearing?

:banghead:

Originally i thought maybe it my camshaft was going, or a cam bearing.
but i didn't see any signs of that when i did the dod delete.

Who’s the OEM part number guru again? Is it @91RS ? I need a part number (or very least bolt and thread size of the bolts that hold in the front sway bar bushings on a 2wd ‘13 suburban. Went to swap the front sway bar today and my 14 year old rounded a bolt off stopping us dead in our tracks. Gonna have to cut the bolt off or truck a bolt extra toe socket to get it out.

Doh!!! Can you hammer a tight 12 point socket onto it?
