I haven’t been counting, actually. Probably a half dozen or so recently. We’ve been coming out here for decades, so I don’t really keep score anymore.

Trail conditions vary all the time, generally smoother in the spring right after the dozers have plowed. This late in the summer there’s a lot of rocks and ruts. But any stock 4x4 could do 80% of them if carefully driven.

I do see a lot more wear on the trails than we used to. Side by sides are popular everywhere now and they travel fast and invite a lot of aggressive driving.
The side by sides are everywhere. Tru dat.

So June might be a good time to go. If’n the snow has melted.

On a positive note, my engine looks fantastic from the underside view
Cylinders look great.
I saw a little nub of a piston skirt, looked great!!

camshaft and cylinder walls looks like i have under 1k on it!

:yaoface2:

I was mostly concerned about cylinder 3
when installing the piston there was a weird scratch from one of the rings.
didn't really dig in so i figured it would just wear in.
Ring didn't seem to have a sharp corner or anything...

Anyways, so far it looks like it did wear in.

My favorite time in some ways, because it’s fun driving through massive snow banks higher than your vehicle where the dozer cut through. But sometimes higher ones don’t open until later if snow is heavy. July would be more reliable.

If you are flexible you can always check in with the local tourist info resources, they keep a sharp eye on what passes open and when. For example the Silverton visitors center keeps tabs on all the pass road conditions in this area. 970-387-5654
