I doubt they did anything to the motors or rear ends, 5.3l with 3.73s. Municipalities are not going to throw money into a squad car to do a cam/tune or anything like that. They are 2wd and have 1" shorter suspension i believe. For weight reduction, i doubt it. After they put in the cage, lights, computer crap, extra long guns and so on they are heavier. The 17" steel wheels are probably lighter than the heavy chrome wheels too.

Maybe the older models had 3.73's, but according to the article I posted, the 2013 models have 3.08's.

Even if they do have 3.08s those little tires make them quick!
Plus the tuning could be slightly different from gm.

Different rear ends are an option from GM Fleet. Gov't agencies order each new car and have to wait for it to be built, it's not like they buy them off of the lot (most of the time, at least). 3.08 vs 3.73 has to do with the transmission. Older trucks have 4spd, and got 3.73 standard. Newer trucks have 6spd and get the 3.08s. Extra gears = taller final drive ratio. There are two versions of the police Tahoe, too. The PPV and the SSV. The PPV is 2wd, sits lower, and is pursuit rated. The SSV is 4wd, normal ride height, and is not pursuit rated.

As for weight reduction, cam, engine mods.....no. An emphatic no. Everything is bone stock. I laugh at the idea of weight reduction, actually. It's quite the opposite. If you had any idea how much extra shit I have to haul around in my work expedition, you'd laugh too. The TruckVault in the back weighs several hundred pounds by itself and would negate any other "weight reduction" stuff on it's own...and that's not even scratching the surface.

I have a buddy that has used one a couple of times and refuses to get back in one. He says that they are quick off the line but have a huge dead spot in them. That dead spot has caused a couple of accidents and put some of our local county officers in the hospital.

Our Texas state troopers tahoes and crown vics are supercharged and tuned along with lowered. I have actually looked under their hoods.

My Illinois Statie officer has one, probably 2 years old. 6.0 liter, 6L90 six speed trans, 3.42 gears, special police Goodyear tires that have a wear rating of just 200 (so very soft). His patrol is 18-wheelers on the interstate so his is geared to pull 120 with ease. Oh and it's 2WD. I told him I want to buy it when it goes to auction, would make a heck of a tow vehicle

I know this is an ancient thread:sorrysign:, but wow! Texas troopers have SC'd patrol vehicles? If so, I'm going there to buy up some of the scraps.
