What is the chance that GM would fix the vibration/buffeting issue in 2017 models?

Is it possibly due to the redesign of roof lines where the doors meet. Weather stripping maybe doesn't provide enough seal. The hinges don't offer enough support. Wind gets between the two causing a vibration.

I suppose this could cause it but I'm guessing the wind noise would be unbearable and very obvious if this were the case. It's pretty much isolated to the design whether it's chassis, body mounts, airflow related, etc. Our Yukon was super quiet in cabin when we dealt with our cabin pressure/buffeting. There's a major flaw in design when tires balanced outside of 15lbs road force cause the problem. I am just happy we were able to eliminate 95% of the problem with new ties with multiple RF balancing. I was scheduled to have our headliner ripped out and roof (re)attached but decided against it after going the tire route first.

I suspect your roof bows came undone as you drove the car, nothing you could have predicted from the test drive

IIRC GM has "pulled" the roof fix, as it was coming undone again and think they have given up

They will likely deal with this on an individual basis until the next full redesign

Roof bows are still an issue with the 2016s?

I have a new 2016 Tahoe with a vibration issue and they tell me the specs are an acceptable level for GM. They are not acceptable to me.

Is the booming at low speeds when you hit every imperfection in the road pretty consistent on every Yukon/Suburban?

At least those with 22s?

I had a 2015 Suburban loaner while the Yukons tires were being balanced 17 times. And that booming hitting bumps at low speed from 0-40 mph?

I'm in the market for a 16 Denali, and have a dealer anxious to sell me one at about 16% MSRP. Howver, I'm a bit scared after reading this thread.

Is there any Youtube videos or anything of this? I have an idea what to look for. Folks that have it, do you regret your purchase, or are you dealing with it?

Does it have 22s? Drive slowly around rough gravel roads just broken up roads or road with joints. Drive slowly 20 -40 you hear booming like a speaker with bass in the cabin at every bump? That's booming.


Take it for a drive fror a drive on the highway. Turn off the radio turn down the A/C, if you can avoid road noise like driving next to a semi, thats great too. But just normal quiet no radio driving.

You should hear it woo woo woo woo sound that sounds the same as the rear windows down. Put ONLY the back windows down at highway speed and you'll know what your looking for. Niw put the back windows back up. And drive quietly, do you hear the buffeting. It's mots common at 70-72.

Now get up to 74-80, does the trick vibrate? Does the steering wheel shimmy. Do the passenger seats and DVD shake back and forth. You have the famous vibration.

If you dont have any of that, buy it. But beware, I drove 7, bought the one without, and it all developed after 500 miles.

Lastly, the bulk of these issues seem to be associated with pre 07/2016 build dates. Check the build date on the driver's side door jamb.

Last thing you need is to buy a brand new truck that was built 9 months ago and has been sitting on the lot rotting.

This is the best advice

IIRC drove 10-12 of them, found 2 that were acceptable, which means faint booming but absolutely no vibrations

I'm 100% convinced every single one booms, but not everyone can perceive it - and as the roof bows come unattached, the booms get worse

Not every one vibrates - run far away from any that vibrate, you should feel it at 35-50 and/or 65-80

As long as they have the silly third row seats that do NOT fold flush with the floor, I won't buy one anyway. IMO, GM has ruined the Suburban.

So are the ones with the main buffeting/vibration issues the long base models and ones with 22 inch wheels?
