I just bought a 12" sub in a ported box from a buddy for cheap. But the sub is absolutely terrible. What kind of 12" sub would you recommend to get that is in the range of 100-120 dollars? Keep in mind that I know close to nothing about audio. I do know that i have an MTX 350 watt 1 ohm amp, but i do not know ohm math or what an ohm is... any advice will help. i just need something better than a 12" Sony Xplode... haha

problem is the box needs to be built to the specs of the sub. It's true that most sub are decently close in specs, but you could have 2 subs that need completely different box specs.

would it be best to try to go to the sound shop and see which subs would fit in the box? or just try to buy a whole new box and sub together? i can't spend more than 150 bucks on it. i have other things that i need to buy that are higher up on the priority pole if you know what i mean.

You should just measure your current box and get the cubic ft. Then match a sub using the specs of your box. If you don't know how to figure out the volume use this http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm

There's tons of sub manufactures out there, it's all up to personal preference really. You could go for a lower end JL, fosgate or kicker.

You can get a kicker preloaded. Most best buys and PC Richards have them and they go on sale often. Get a 10 or 12 inch with a rms of 400 wats and you will be done.

Wow, thanks Joe. that's awesome. Thank you. It looks like I'll have to wait though. Just got a ticket for not using my blinker at a stop sign 3 houses from my home.. he pulled me over in my driveway. So now I have to pay that off first. But now I know what to get. Haha, thanks.

My last system I had a 12 inch infinity with a 400 watt Rockford Fosgate and was very pleased. If you have the money you can't go wrong with JL subs. If you want cheaper MTX isn't bad either.
