What maintenance to expect around 200k miles

k&n makes a dry filter also, the oiled filters are reported to mess with the maf sensor and that could be the reason for the funky shifting, even if it wasn't from the filter oil it could be the maf taking a dump my experience is I see them going bad around 160k
Agreed the dirty MAF can cause that to happen

Cleaned mine it's good as new

Gotta just be the fluid life monitor. Lol. The tech 2 can read it the same as the oil life on the dic.

I didn't know the PCM/TCM tracked that. It probably calculates very similarly to how the OLM does. No hijack intended, but this reminds me of something I learned recently about Jenn's car. It has a counter for the trans fluid life that counts in increments based on fluid temp sustaining certain temperature ranges:

"The temperature of the CVT fluid is continuously monitored. When it is below 50ºC it is considered in the "warming-up phase", once it is between 50ºC and 90ºC, it is considered in its normal state. Each minute the CVT is operated with a fluid temperature between 90ºC and 100ºC, a deterioration counter is incremented by 1.

When the fluid temperature is between 100ºC and 110ºC, the increment is 2.
When the fluid temperature is between 110ºC and 120ºC, the increment is 4.
When the fluid temperature is between 120ºC and 140ºC, the increment is 6.
When the fluid temperature is above 140ºC, the increment is 8."

It'll add up until a predetermined limit is met then flash a warning of some sort. I've changed the fluid twice under our ownership but I don't have the stuff to reset the counter. I'll just have the dealer reset it when it comes on.

Interesting.

Do NOT have a transmission flush performed. Instead, a gentler method of servicing is to drop the pan, replace the filter, reinstall the pan, and then fill with enough fluid to get it back to level on the dip stick.

Flushes are generally the predecessor to death on high mileage transmissions. I only did a flush on mine once, around 50k miles, and have done a simple drain/replace/refill every 50k since. I have 201,000 miles on the original motor and original transmission.
that's only if you flush it every 50,000 if you flush more consistently especially with a rebuilt trans there shouldn't be any problems as long as maintenance has been up to date

Hmmmm. I don't recall seeing that as an item with the Tech 2 on my '04, but I'll have the big girl out early tomorrow for a hike and will break out the Tech 2 for the trip to the trailhead. Been wanting to compare the Tech 2 values to the reman dash gauges.

Pretty sure there's a trans fluid life monitor in there somewhere. @swathdiver?

I was in it tonight and didn't see it. Tranny temp is there, but not fluid life. Could be user error....

Still not seeing it in any of the menus for my '04. Would love to have someone set me straight (on this only...LOL).
