I have a Escalade do they call for 91 or can you use a lower octane? 87 to low and do all the GM engines call for the same octane?
Thanks

Im not 100% sure about the 6.2's, but generally speaking the only reason you would ever need to put in higher octaine is if you have a high output/ compression motor which these are not. You would need a higher octaine if you were to get a Black Bear tune or another chip.

I say...always run 91 at minimum unless you drive a beater...whether it calls for it or not...if it requires 87, typically, 91 wont cause any damage

Wouldn't the owners manual be the place to get this info? Everything I have read indicates that whatever the owners manual recommend is what you should use. I have not seen compelling proof anywhere that the higher octane is better. In fact I have read more that you are not going to see enough of an improvement to justify paying more for the higher octane. This is just my 2 cents worth as I had been trying to make this decision for years and just finally said to heck with it. I'm doing what my owners manual says to use. Can someone show me where i can find info that would convince me otherwise? I really want to use what's best for my yukon, just not sure the hight octane really is better.

And its just a few dollars more per tank...so its not really a big deal to the wallet either

My tank is 26 gallons...

If I fill my tank...I only spend $5 more using 91 premium, than using 87 regular

If someone is worried about saving $5...they shouldnt own a truck

Run what the book calls for at 'minimum', no reason to have a nice Esky and use cheap gas, just to have the motor retard the timing, and have poor mileage and performance.

Using better while may not help per 'se. It surely doesn't hurt, other than your wallet.

Well I still would not buy it becuase it has adverse effects on the catlytic converter and has no gains unless the truck is tuned to actually use it.
