thanks, think I can get the 04 LS 175,000 miles for $5,000.00 its in good condtion. I know the owner of it. it just has the 4.8L thats the only hold back. and its a 2 wd.

I really want a 03 model z71 black with around 150K miles for about $8,000 if anybody knows of one. cloae to bama.

In all honesty, it comes down to necessity. If you would be happier with a bigger engine and four wheel drive (and can afford the extra cost) that's what you should get. However, if you need something to tow with, the 2wd 4.8L will work fine.

I would love a Z71 or a NNBS, but my income does not allow it at this time. The 2wd 4.8L does what I need it to for now - gets me from A to B. I have 3.73 gears and according to the manual I can tow up to 6700 lbs.

I've got a 2WD with the 4.8L. It seems to be lacking power going up any kind of grade- the transmission hunts a lot which is really annoying. I don't know if my tranny needs a service (185K miles) or if a BB tune will help. I think the bigger engine might help that BUT, I've been tracking mileage tank to tank with an app on my iPod (fram gas cubby) since July 1 and over 9,771 miles have averaged an honest 18.2 mpg with a high of 19.81 and a low of 16.59. I don't think I could get that with the 5.3 and know the 6.0 would be less than 15.

I am going to use mine to tow once and a while so I need to make sure my tranny is still healthy- it shifts OK, like I said, it just hunts too much under load. I don't know if its ever been serviced so I'm hesitant to just jump in and create a problem I'm not sure I have.

5.3, not 100% but i think it gets better gas mileage as well. Really gas mileage not what the paperwork tells you.
