Why is there no underhood light in a Tahoe?

Yeah, I know. I can answer my own question. :evillol:

The answer is because GM is cheap and always looking for ways to delete useful stuff and raise prices as an added bonus.

My 1995 Chevy pickup has an underhood light that comes on when I raise the hood, and a separate corded light that can be turned on and off and removed to reposition the light to where it might be needed. I just had to go into the house to get a flashlight so I could find what I was looking for under the hood of the 2010 Tahoe. Geez, those stinkers in GM "management" just keep stripping useful stuff off of the production line, in this case two underhood lights.

So they can record a record profit again next quarter, they have to delete little stuff on each vehicle.

To give people who are not happy unless they have something to complain about, something to complain about. :Big Laugh:

I dont remember the last time i looked under the hood of any new vehicles and it had a light there and on top of it, those lights arent that bright and i had to use my hanging light.

The real answer is because of mercury. The underhood lights in the 80s and 90s had mercury switches. Since that is no longer allowed by the EPA (notice it's not GM or a dealership) we don't get lights under the hood anymore.

Jeez! Quit whining and start googling for your answers.

You don't need a light if you don't break down. Haven't needed one for any GM product since buying the first one 1977.
Simple enough.

That's actually a pretty good half baked excuse. To mount the light with an on/off switch would be just as good and cheaper than the using the mercury switch.

You (and GM) didn't think ahead very much when coming up with this excuse, did you?

I would normally agree with you in the statement you made above. But 2012 was my first breakdown in a GM product for a very long time. And a subject has been resurrected from the grave where a guy with a 2011 Tahoe has broken down at least 3 times in the last 6 moths too. I wonder if these facts mean GM just isn't as reliable as it has been in past years?

Got to give you credit for making up an answer . . . even though it's a totally made-up answer as applies to my 1995 Chevrolet pickup. :emotions34:

When one of the bulbs burn out, all I've got to do is go to Wal-Mart or any auto supply store or a hardware store and buy a dirt-cheap replacement bulb.

Sounds like someone wasted their money...my '92 Pickup also has an underhood light...obviously makes the Tahoe an inferior vehicle, the hell are we thinking owning these piles of sh*t?
