will a 2002 GMC Yukon transmission fit my 2004 GMC Yukon? both are 5.3, 2 wheel drive. If no, why won't it fit? Trying to see if it's a direct fit or would I need to change something to make it fit

If they are both 1500 or 2500 and the same'ish trim package then yes.
What are the options on yours vs the options on the other one?

they both are the "slt" models but I've checked two or three websites and it says they are not compatible

I'm wondering if all the dimensions are the same but maybe a plug is different or maybe the torque converter is different or something like that

if they are both 2wd 1500's its the 4l60 and yes its interchangable. the 2wd 4l60/65/70 are all the same case and extension housing. i have had 4 of them out of different platforms in my wifes GTO. all the same. the one we took to have built was out of an 03 sierra 4door, the one i turned in for a core was out of a 04 van and the one thats currently in there is rebuilt from GM. all the same all the way across.

2wd vs 4wd is different. different output shaft and extension housing

1500 vs 2500 is different. 4l60 vs 4l80 (larger case different pinout on the plug)

Thanks DanTheMan but when I tried Google and the dealership, everywhere says they are not interchangeable? U think I should try it anyway?

they are the same. the converter stall speed might be different but after 98ish a 4l60 is a 4l60. the 04 might have the 4l60eHD (aka the 4l65e) but still shouldnt matter. the computer doesnt care between the two. all new rebuilt 4l60's from GM are 4l65e and the part number supersedes the 4l60 part number. you might have to move your shift selector and PRND sensor over to the other trans but its a couple bolts to move it over. they are both on the shifter shaft out the drivers side of the transmission.

only time you are going to have an issue is going from 2wd to 4wd or to a 4l80. those are the only physical trans differences.

Nooooooooo!!!! There is a change in 2004. Yes, 4l60E, but the website is correct. There are whole slew of changes in 2004 that does not meet the eye. You have to do a VIN check, but I wanted to move my new Tranny from 2000 to my 2004. Should have been a piece of cake. Worked on a 2003, not the 2004.
