honestly if the shtf 90% of us will perish within a year, the older I get the more I realize this to be true, with no widespread electrical power or gasoline reserves that right there alone puts the bullet in the gun so to say, unless you have the capability to 1. protect yourself (have food stored) and can hide from the initial onslaught of savagery and the few years of it afterwards. 2. the ability grow your own food supply and protect it from marauders. 3. have the knowledge to know and the (ability to acquire) that you also need basics like salt and other essential minerals to remain healthy. 4. even if you could manage to remain alive a few more years the future would be very bleak it would take decades or more to rebuild any resemblance of a civilized society.

regarding any vehicle to escape? good freaking luck, just think of the simple day to day traffic and then multiply that times 400, your escape breaks down a motorcycle or bicycle to get anywhere or walking away. because every road/highway/ditch/crevice will be jammed with cars

at the very best if something (anything-an act of GOD) disabled the global electrical grid/food/fuel supply, it's an instant return to the early 1800's, only non power tools would be useful at all and other mechanical devices like bicycles etc. no more mass processed foods, if you have the skills and supplies (like sugar-very unlikely) to can/preserve food's to save for the winter you might not starve.

I could go on, the bottom line it's a nightmare and you will probably die soon for a great variety of reasons.

^ Too true...

My Yukon? Nope. It's not even 4wd and too heavy. I'll take my Tacoma. But, if it gets really bad, I'm stealing some horses. Good off-road capability, no fuel to buy and, after some drying, you have some firestarters.

Yep. In a SHTF situation your best vehicle asset is probably your mountain bike, at least beyond the immediate term. And tire tubes will be more valuable than gold.

a full size suv no its too big uses too much gas to be practical and traffic would be less of a concern more like being able to quickly maneuver around abandoned vehicles and various debris. maybe getting a diesel for such an event would atleast give you the option of getting one of those home kits to make diesel out of various oils. as many abandoned vehicles and equipment direct fuel would be easy to get for the first few months after that basic oils would still be fairly easy to come by. then in a situation where you may have one of the few still operational vehicles around would paint a huge target on you for people resorting to looting and stealing to get by. my choice of vehicle in such an event would be a smaller older jeep converted to diesel. too many electronics to worry about in newer stuff when you dont have a local parts store available. any other smaller suv converted to diesel would work too.

Yeah everyone seems right lots of sense. There heavy consume lots of gas . The question is you can’t move a family in motorcycle. It might not be the best car for this. Thought someone had modified a Tahoe for this this type situation that can arise any day. With all the flash floods, hurricanes and sink holes I still feel safe in any type of situation that can come my way

there are a bunch of large SUVs setup as bugout vehicles. basically the same setup as an offroad trail expedition rig. you would basically be after building with reinforced bumpers and such a small flexible lift nothing too big. roof rack and other extra storage options to haul extra supplies. its been done before but as per your question overkill can be the downfall there. you can just about turn one into a tank but your adding alot of extra weight. start off with something lighter and do the same build.

i think id want a dirt bike, or a enduro at least, its good off road, skinny enough to get by most traffic jams. get some saddle bags to hold gas and gear and run away lol

Doubeleive is right tho, most of us are dead pretty fast.

you know them crazy prepper people, not so crazy now are they, those will be the ones who survive longest.

that or some of them will be the first to go. some of them are pretty well known in thier area. people will flock to them for help or to raid them. if your going to prep for such an event keep it quiet.
