Just had it serviced yesterday, 5070 miles on it. We were headed on an 800 mile trip today, and it started to shake and knock about 144 miles into the trip. At a hotel, and headed back home tomorrow, trip cancelled. Getting a rental car, tow truck will be here in a couple hours to get it back to our home dealership.

why not take the rental and keep going on your trip?

No rentals available, wife picking me and the dog up in the morning. She is 30 weeks pregnant, so doesn't feel comfy making the long trip (she was going to fly out on Tuesday morning). Dog has cancer, and I cannot leave him with anyone and fly myself.

This was the best option. We'll regroup and replan :)

Damn man, sorry to hear that. Some of these horror stories make me worried about ordering.

Please post back here what you hear from the dealer. I'm assuming its the lifters issue which is crazy that they don't have this resolved by now. If they can only crank out a handful a month, they might as well build it right!

Service director called me this morning to make sure I made it home. He said he's sure it's the lifters, and he wants to replace them all. He said he needs to convince GM to approve it, but he sounded confident about it.

They are getting me a Sierra as a loaner on Monday to drive until the fixnis done. I will keep this thread updated with progress.

I do recommend people look seriously at the Duramax right now. My rig was built in Feb and I still had the issue. They could have thrown in an engine that was built earlier though. Either way, Duramax seems to be the right engine, in my opinion.

Was this a known issue on earlier builds that is supposedly fixed for the newer builds?

Also isn't this the same motor on past 6.2s that's been pretty reliable?

GM doesn't cover design defects so owners shouldn't expect GM to fix these out of warranty. This was GM's defense concerning the burning oil issue, piston rings were designed poorly - no pay.

Edit, food for thought: GM's warranty doesn't cover design defects and has used this defense against class action lawsuits.

Sorry to hear about that happening to you and definitely interested to see more details about the fix. I can chime in about your Duramax comment - I have seen nothing but positive feedback on the web about it, and mine has been great so far, albeit I only have 700 miles on it as of now.
