I have a recurring P0442 code for 'small evaporative emissions system leak'. Auto stores will sometimes reset it for me, but they don't seem to want to and it just comes back after a couple of months. I don't know what causes it and don't have the money for a shop to fiddle with it for days to rty and find it. There are no operational problems that I can see. Runs and starts fine.

Have you fixed this yet? If not, wonder if it's simply your gas cap needing to be replaced. If that's it, should clear on its own once a new cap is installed.

I got a new gas cap because the previous one had a lock that didn't always seem to work quite right. This one does not lock. Code issue didn't seem to change.

The parts store kids don't test or clear your codes (properly)hell 98% of them don't have a clue about anything gone are the days when you had to actually know something about cars to work there you can get a cheap scan tool for around 30 bucks it will help

I did not notice what year you have if it's OBD one discount negative place a jumper between poss -&neg.. let it sit for about 20 min it will drain all stored electric in PCB ecm (etc) when you reconnect turn key to run let sit for a min or two before starting

This sounds totally unclear but seems to present a fire hazard. Not sure how one "discounts" negative.
