I would invest in a new sensor for the gauge-that is the sensor with a two wire connection. The sensor with 3 wires connects to the PCM. It is very possible that the sensor is failing-GM and other manufacturers buy sensors according to cost, not quality.

You are correct-it is the o-ring leaking most likely.
You could replace the sensor, but I don't think that is the problem.
Unless you have a poorly maintained truck, the oil pumps last a long time. That said, if you are going to replace the o-ring, I would change out the oil pump while you are...
Since you didn't say that the transfer case had shifted into neutral while driving on the interstate, your problem is the transmitter, not the motor or switches. The transmitter is located on the t-case and sends a signal that lights the correct lamp and lets the PCM know the correct mode...
How did you operate the start relay? Did you provide a ground and 12 V + or just the +? (The PCM normally provides the ground for the start enable relay).
Did you say that you replaced the battery with a new one? I have found similar symptoms in other GM vehicles which were eliminated by replacing the battery.
I believe that GM's electronics are sensitive to poor quality power. Batteries can seem to work and test normally but can cause strange...
Sounds like an interesting engineering challenge. The ECM has the job of controlling the engine rpm, etc. Now you want to take that control away without the ECM being aware of it.
It is possible that the traction control can decide that the new tire is going too slow (it will turn slower) and then attempt to control the speed difference.
During a panic breaking situation, the ABS may attempt to control for a wheel turning at a different speed, resulting in some...

The catalytic convertors can also affect idle if they clog up and release. Like the potato in the exhaust pipe effect! (I messed with a friend of mine by crouching behind his cherry 57 Chev and intermittently holding a potato over one of his dual pipes while he was...
Could the deep creep have made it through the engine to the O2 sensors? If you were doing a hot start, the sensors maybe could have prevented a proper fuel mix (closed loop).
But if you tried a cold start as well, then the O2 sensors would not have any impact on a cold start (open loop). I may...
I vaguely recall there is a difference in the crank sensor/position of teeth on the indexing ring that is mounted to the crank. There could be other differences that other forums could comment on.

A faulty harmonic balancer can drag/lock up the crank against the block if the rubber disintegrates. Removing the belt may release the balancer enough to make it turn free.Very similar symptoms to electrical causes.

Since you aren't getting any feedback, you are on your own. Take it to a shop that has the tool (tech tool?)to read the codes and troubleshoot the ECM and BCM. I believe the gauge cluster has the timers built in to control power to the gauges, etc.
Have you checked the basics=good battery...
Could the front seal at the torque convertor be leaking when the transmission gets warm? Some transmissions are known for this problem and better quality seals are used to repair.
It has to be some kind of a seal or pressure regulator problem related to temperature.
I suspect a grounding or 12volt problem as mentioned by Travis. When you turn on the lights, this places an additional load on the grounding system and the 12volt positive. A corroded or loose connector, or a rusty bolt connecting the ground to the frame, body, battery etc can cause strange...
You could go high tech on your troubleshooting if you can identify where the harness enters the cab, perhaps you can put a multimeter on the wiring to check the resistance reading of the gauge. As you use gas the resistance should change.
