rear disc conversion - message gubni on pirate4x4 - he has a really nice disc conversion kit with ebrake for a touch over $500
I got my kit in a while ago and it's all GM new or remanufactured parts; comes with semi-metallic pads and you can ss lines for $20 from him.
Thanks Battle, some really good intel and advice.
With regards to fuel, I will have an extra 15-30gals on me at all times. The tire carrier will hold x2 jerry cans and I'm hoping the trailer will also hold x2 jerry cans.
Great minds think alike!
Tactical Armor Group is building me a rear bumper w/tire carrier...I agree, their construction is incredible and I personally find their tire carriers to be the nicest looking on the market.
From their standard checklist they had every option I was looking for...
Completely agree! You search the boards and routinely hear of parts "wearing out" or "breaking" and the reason is blamed on "xyz" modification...but it's so rare these parts are new and typically have a ton of mileage on them!
What i think will be pretty interesting that comes out of all...
As purple mentioned, it would take a LOT of work to swap in a complete 8 lug IFS and I've never personally seen it done.
However, a few folks have had luck swapping in the 9.25" diff and then having custom CV's made by RCV...the CV's alone will run close to $1k. This guy retained his 6 lug hubs...
Awesome, I'll definitely hit you up if we head up there.
some of the mods:
hydroboost conversion (almost done)
custom rear bumper + tire carrier
winch bumper w/winch (not sure which one)
14bsf swap w/tru trac
FFR Heavy Duty tie rods
Moog Pitman & Idler Arms
4-6" RCX lift
Cognito Pitman/Idler...
Definitely using mine!
I'm in the middle of a big update to the truck so I'm actually rushing to complete the job by March. We're taking it out end of Feb for a few days to test all the changes, then we're going to really run through it during the class.
Most of our time is going to be...
This from the kid that installed end links in a school parking lot and received a ticket? What are you, 16??
You've got a lot to learn, so listen when on these boards as a newb. We're a pretty laid back group on this forum, but I don't recommend coming on and making comments that prove...
You hit the nail on the head!! A lot of stuff I'm asking Bruce to show us is how to drive our rigs close to the limits and NOT break them. Everyone complains about IFS and how weak it is...but I think if you know how to drive on it, it's an excellent setup (especially for those w/dd duties)...
there will be tons of pics, no worries there...i'm actually building a website to chronicle the build and trip...will launch within the next two months.
When I found out these guys were in CT, I was so pumped...I seriously can't wait.
There's no minimum, so I'm going either way...if anyone wants to join, the more the merrier!
Folks,
I have a private, 3 day session setup with Overland Experts in CT for March 12-14th. This is the premier company on the east coast and known globally for their work.
EDIT: Date changed to next week week - 19th, 20th, 21st.
With my 6mo expedition coming up, I knew I needed...
I can help here as I'm doing this right now.
the 14bsf came in two widths...the 4x4 model is the one that will fit under your truck...the 2x4 is a few inches narrower. I highly recommend you rebuild this right (invest a little $$) and also choose a selectable locker (ARB, E-Eaton) or limited...
I did :)
I was reading on another forum about a late 90's 1500 having a different ujoint that also had the 5.7l and 4l60e so I just want to make sure.

Both rockauto and summitracing are stating I...
Unfortunately my truck is nowhere near so I can't measure...but I need to have the u joint next time i'm in the shop b/c we're doing the rear axle swap.
My rear is a '95 K2500 so I know it's a 1350...but I'm not sure what my '99 4dr 4x4 Tahoe has on the end. (but it might be a Precision 447)...
I'm hoping to get to that level one day of fab/install work, but it's slow going at the moment!
Which insurance company did you go with? I checked with mine and they would not cover.
As an aside - i'm a die-hard Corvette guy, love your dd!
if you can put new parts under that rig for $5k, more power to you b/c none of the guys I've spoken to could. :)
One thing to also consider - most big insurance companies will not insure a SAS'd rig.
Some quick estimates:
Rebuilt D60 axles - $1800
Front & Rear Lockers - $1800
Alcan Springs -...
there are a bunch of sas'd guys on pirate4x4...I was originally thinking this route, but I'd like to see how I can improve IFS and do something a little different.
Also, I estimated ~$12k to SAS with mostly new parts and labor (rebuilt axles & tcase, everything else new)
I think you'll find...
how does de-cranking down to 4" affect the IFS when using this lift? What negative/positive affects can i expect?
Bowtie - still happy with the lift?
I need a really strong kit that won't bend/break when it gets beat up over really long trail rides. Is there any other 4" kit you would...
our front transfer cases are pretty weak...I would do a bit of research before putting a locker in it.
For my OBS, it's highly frowned upon putting a locker in my NP246 b/c it WILL be damaged....yours might be different, but a NP246 is not designed to handle it.
Sunlit - that's what I was thinking when i took it out of the box.
What's throwing me though is that rock auto's part number next to each MC states the same applications (when you click on it)..meaning they are interchangeable amongst 1/2t and 3/4t trucks.
With that in mind - I'm...
I'm finally working on my hydroboost and should finish it by tomorrow!
My question - our OBS vacuum brakes came with Master Cylinder 174723. The hydro 3/4t trucks came with 174722.
I have the "hydro" (174722) in front of me and it's identical in every way to the vacumm MC on my truck...
Not mine...
