Thank you all for commenting. I am going to write a summary of everything I've been though with this because it is quite confusing to understand (my fault for not being clear through this all).
I was driving on the interstate and the engine stopped. I had power on the dash all the way to the...
No I am wrong to say it in this way "cranking"...I turn the key. Also I did not shut it off in working condition it had shut off while driving on the interstate.
I have done this too with no luck. I ran a new solenoid wire and supplied 12 volts bypassing the relay completely. I went through the circuit backwards from the starter to find out I am having a 6 volt+ drop at the battery while cranking. It is a new battery and I had it tested anyway and it...
I have come to the conclusion that the engine is seized. I unbolted the starter from the block but left it hooked up and grounded it. I tested the voltage at the battery again while cranking and got normal voltage 11.x v while cranking. I tested the voltage at the wires on the starter and...
I had not tested the 12 v wire to the starter while cranking. It is 12.x volts when the power is on but this wire also drops down to 6.x volts when cranking. So both wires to the starter are not getting 12 volts. I tested the voltage at the battery while cranking and i'm getting 6-7 volts...
Thank you for clarification I put my vehicle info below but for some reason cannot attach an image of my codes. I found the purple wire coming from the fuse box that leads to the starter solenoid. I probed it and measured the voltage at that point and there was still 7 volts when cranking. I...
The battery has 12.7 volts. I am not understanding whats happening... I tested the voltage at the starter solenoid while cranking and got 6-7 volts. I took off the starter and just tested the wire itself while cranking and now it says 12.x volts.
Sorry for the confusion. I was testing the voltage across the negative battery terminal and other ground like the alternator and body. Since I've run new grounds, the voltage has been good (0.0 - 0.1). I had removed the starter completely and had it hooked up but ran my own ground to the case...
The battery is about a year old. I ran new ground cables to the frame and even one from the starter itself to the frame. Now the voltage is 0.0-0.1 on ground. Still the same issue with clicking. I'm wondering if my engine completely seized up. I'm trying to turn it by hand with a wrench but...
I got the battery charged. It will not start...only click. I took the starter off and tested it with the power connected. I grounded the case to the frame and turned the key and the starter worked. When I put it back on and try it just clicks really fast. It seems that there isn't sufficient...
Thank you for the responses! I live in Indiana. Is there a way to test the positive battery cable without replacing it to see? I did take the battery into autozone and had it charged and tested and they said it was good. It is just low currently because of working on it and testing.
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2001 Tahoe that I bought off my brother about a year ago. He used to have issues with it starting and he said he had to "wiggle cables" to get it to start. I have been driving it a year with no problem and then lost all power on the road and would not start. I tested...
