The truck is my son's 2004 silverado extended cab. He has it cam'ed out, headers, tune and other misc stuff including a high perf transmission. The truck is not his daily. This afternoon he took it for a drive and got on it hard. After a couple of runs he heard some knocking. I would like to hear from the experience folks what you all think broke.

He is going to get it towed to my house tomorrow, probably will start by removing the heads and inspect the top end.

Pull 1 spark plug wire off at a time to listen & probably find the Knocking cyl. Maybe get a look in that cyl to see what’s wrong

If you bring them to a shop for machining and rebuilding, they should have a bench-mounted compressor where they position the head underneath it and pull a long lever to make easy and quick work of it. The other, smaller screw-style types are for working the springs with the heads still on the engine and/or in the vehicle. Let the shop do the tedious work if they're gonna do the machining.
Also, with higher lift cam they (Machine Shop) can check for spring binding and clearance.
