100k differential maintenance question

my truck is approaching the 100k Mile mark and i want to keep up with the maintenance. i have a 2004 tahoe LT. it has three buttons which say nutrel, what looks like 2 wheel drive and a button that says 4LO. now this 100k maintence in the manual doesnt really go into detail. is this only the real differential? i was told that i have 2 differentials and a transfer case in the middle that you have to do all three. is that true? should you do all three at same time or can it be done one by one?

Are you sure you don't have four buttons for transfer case? One that says 2wd then 4hi 4lo and a circle on top that says all wheel drive?
Anyway you should have a front differential , a transfer case and rear differential. Also the tranny fluid should be changed in my opinion. You don't necessarily have to do it all at the same time, but if I'm under there I might as well do it all the same anyway. Imho.

I think you have full time 4WD with the Borg Warner transfer case. Go to this link, select your model, then year and enjoy the reading!

Whatever you have, it's a good idea to change all the fluids. My truck was bucking a bit, like she was trying to go in two different directions until we changed the front and rear differentials and the transfer case fluids. Smooth as can be now!

thank you! :) always great to have resources. i appreciate it. yes when my water pump went the tow truck guy told me that my truck is AWD because of the switches he saw there. I honestly didnt realize it was until he told me and i looked it up.

checked the fluids earlier today to prepare for all this fluid work.

transmission fluid was a salmon pink color.

ATF was darkish.

brake fluid was olive/semi clear. looked like olive oil.

shop quoted me 400 to do alll the fluids and filters for 100k servicing, thoughts?

Probably a pretty accurate price for all fluids and belts, its hard to get out of the dealer for less than $200 anyway. My 05 was AWD as well, they must have did that for die hard chevy fans that wanted top of the line like the Denali.

$400 is a good price, and being your AWD I'd do the front diff a lil more often then 100k due to it being a weak point on these trucks

I honestly didnt realized it was an AWD version until i had to have it towed lol When i was buying it the VIN numbers etc all showed it was 4WD. long as it was 4x4 i guess it didnt make a difference to me. i dont know why thy made it AWD, ppl have told me that makes it even worse of a gas guzzler. and thanks think im gonna get it done over there

someone once told me that about the front diff. can you explain why? and whats the general intervals to have it serviced if it needs to be serviced more often as a weak point? thanks
