Loving this thread. Thanks!

Thanks!

I'm now saving up for the tools and parts to rebuild the front diff before winter hits. Something bad is going on inside it!

Hey tgui, what's the trick in getting that dang flex fuel filter off? I bought that red OTC tool you showed and I can get it under the quick connect fitting but I can't get the fitting pulled down over the tool to release the clips.

Any advice?

Shoot. All I remember is that I had to bend and twist that tool into place, one side then the other. I had to pull back on the filter to make room I think as well. Then it was a matter of cussing and pushing the adapter forward with a long screw driver as a lever. In a fit of anger I tried yanking things apart again and the filter came off!

I've heard that shops sometimes skip what I did and just cut the filter out with large snips. I certainly would give this a shot, just dont grind it off... since gasoline and sparks are baaaad.... mmmmmmkay!

Good luck its a *****!

Might as well put some garage stuff here. I've slowly been cleaning things up preparing for the front diff rebuild and the winter 4l80e junkyard build. Shelves, small work bench, compressor, real tool chest and so forth are in place.

My FIL said he found his old bose setup from the late 80's in his basement and asked if I could use it. So now I have garage music and soon to be TV!

Speakers:

$100 amp, 200 watts max with built in bluetooth for phone streaming.

TV test with iPad watching Star Trek TNG... hnnngggggg... god I love that show.

I'm rebuilding the front diff starting this weekend. It makes angry noises. I have never done anything like this before, much like the other repairs on my truck. I'll take lots of pics. Wish me luck!

Guides I'm following:

(removal)
http://www.truckmodcentral.com/forums/f63/how-remove-gm-8-25-front-differential-ifs-11936/

(rebuild)
http://www.truckmodcentral.com/foru...-differential-**56k-beware-pic-heavy**-13813/

Tools I gots:

Rebuild Kit:

If all goes well I'll be better prepared to tackle a junkyard 4L80/5e rebuild over the winter for spring.
