First I’ve seen something like this. Do you have to push the button in to start the truck?

No. It lets you remove the key and locks the shift solenoid until the key is put back in. The engine and accessories, like AC, continue to run with the key out.

Just hit the old with a hair dryer for a min--it'll peel right off--sometimes you don't even need a hair dryer.

Generally unit cars don't have it locally, but EVERY car for a K-9 officer has it. They can roll the back windows down (dog guards on the doors) and let the a/c run to keep it cool for the dog. The windows down are for if the car stalls.
