2009 Chevy tahoe

I have a 09 Tahoe and currently it’s starting up but everytime I put it in gear it’s not doing anything . When I use the machine to see what code it’s giving it’s saying 7e8 / 7ae …. Yea I can use google but have anybody has this issue and what exactly did you do ?

those are not codes, so you need to either scan for the codes with a scanner that works with obdii or can read gm codes normally beginning with a P
until then no one can even begin to guess, release the parking brake.......

we def need more info to help or point you in a good direction.
some basic info like mileage, 4 speed or 6 speed transmission, not sure if any of the 09's had a 6 speed or not
any work done to it recently? when did the problem start?

Sorry this my first post in here but it’s a 6 speed , the most recent work was done last year, replaced valves on one side because of a roaring noise , replaced spark plugs and wires I’m trying to remember exactly what else was replaced but that was the most recent work done . It just started doing this yesterday

have you checked the transmission fluid? is it a redish/pink color? or a more brown color?

It’s more of a brownish color , definitely changing it tomorrow and replace the strainer but would that make a code come on and possibly not accelerate when in gear ?

brown color would indicate it has a lot of internal wear and/or it has simply never been serviced, probably best to have a transmission shop take a look at it.
you never mentioned the mileage.

It have 240,000 miles

I'm curious how you went about getting 7e8 and 7ea. what was used to get codes like that.


when you say you start the engine, shift into gear but the car doesn't go. is it possible the shift cable broke and you're not. actually shifting the transmission into. drive?
