While I am still keeping my 2002 Tahoe, I came across a 2009 Tahoe LT with 147k miles on it that I think could be gotten for a great price. I have to get a closer look on it this weekend, is about 50 miles away, but the supplied pics look very good. He wants $13,750 for it but I really think I can get it for about $2000 to $2500 off that price.

Any thoughts about what I should be looking for when I see it and drive it?

Thanks in advance.

Same kind of drive train stuff as your 02. The GMT900 has some common issues with cracked dash bad camera mirrors not folding appliqués coming loose emission hoses and vent valves. I’m sure more folks will add their .02 cents. I still really like my 07.

almost the same rig you have now, alot more plastic panels inside that may rattle, pay attention to how the AFM transitions from 8-4-8, also the 6 speed may feel a bit different than your older tahoe so pay attention to the smoothness of shifts etc.

Its at a legit dealership? I would get a carfax and hopefully some maintenance records if available. 147K isnt bad for the 5.3 if it has been properly maintained.

The guy I talked to said the Carfax will be ready and I plan on a long roadtest with it. I know the AFM kicks in under lighter loads but is there a minimum and maximum speed to look for it, feel for it and will the engine noise be significantly different? The roadtest and dash crack inspection will be major parts of the look see.

dont get too wrapped up on that dash crack, a bare bones LS or a top of the line LTZ and maybe even Escalades get it. it will add an extra rattle or 2 but not much the dealer will do about it. willl be cracked above the instruent cluster and probably at the forward corners of the air bag.

in my 08 AFM comes in above 35 mph I think, and basically any time you are cruising at light throttle it will switch, if the exhaust is stock you may not even really hear it. it will also kick in and out on the highway, you may see the RPMs jump a bit as it cycles in and out. just make sure there arent any extra vibrations you can feel when it changes.

I actually looked at a 2008 after work today and it had 2 dash cracks in the spots you just pointed out. They were no longer than 2"-3" and very thin. I could barely feel them when I ran my fingers over them. I will be very observant for the 2009. The 2008 seller wanted $12,750 for it and it had 137k miles. Dark grey in color with black leather. It was an LTZ. Had 20" wheels that looked stock. I am going to roadtest it this coming Tues or Wed. The center console cover for the cup holders worked fine when I touched the detent button for it to open but the smaller one closer to the dash was broke where it just flopped around. Had a scuff or two but no dents. Had Goodyear tires, was dark so did not look real close at the kind of tire. The tread was 3/4. Missing the 3rd row seats but the guy had ordered replacement seats for that. I know I can talk him down as well. I like the silver better than the grey but will see what happens. The engine compartment had not been detailed because he just got it yesterday and it was as clean as mine in my 2002.
