I'm new here and just got a 2011 suburban z71. Would anyone recommend the k&n intake 63 series to add performance and fuel?
Thanks for the help

Get a Air aid filter and a tube only setup.

Plan on getting a black bear tune too.

So the k&n is bad or just over kill? Also what is a bear program?

If you get the k&n make sure you get the one that has the full metal box surrounding. Not the open top one.

Indpendant dyno testing has shown that the biggest restriction in the whole factory setup is the actual tube between the airbox and the throttle body due to all of the resonators and sound-dampening stuff that GM does to keep the engine quiet.

Getting an Airaid Jr kit will replace the OEM air filter and intake tube but retain the factory airbox. It actually performed the best out of the bunch that were tested. The Volant kit came close, but costs more than twice as much and still couln't beat the Airaid Jr kit. Plus Airaid makes a synthetic dryflow filter that never has to be oiled, which is what I got. Costs a little more but I still got mine online for about $165.

Retaining the airbox is the way to go - having an open-element filter in a hot engine bay hurts more than it helps.

Edit:

Black Bear Performance is a company that specializes in EFI Live tuning. They are a supporting vendor here on the forum and have tuned thousands of member's vehicles. Justin can work miracles with these trucks, there is a ton of a potential that can be safely tapped into by getting your computer tuned by them. GM really waters down the factory tune on these things.

It's not over kill its just proven to not be as efficient as the stock air box with a drop in filter and an intake tube like the Air Raid MIT tube. Thats the setup I run and I love it. Getting a tune later this month.

Wow that's some great info thanks guys. I am really happy with the new ride. Raided in my 06 silverado 3/4 ton that I had pretty damn clean. Needed more of a family friendly ride that could still tow the boat. I need to do a few things to make it mine. Ie, it came with chrome mirror caps and I want the painted light silver ones, maybe a level kit, polished bow ties ( although the one I ordered was wrong, not sure if the z71 grill is diff) anyway thanks so much and I will check the air aid

Just ordered an Airaid Jr. kit complete with the recharge kit. I can't wait to receive it and install. One question, is the recharge kit the same basic thing as the K&N recharge kit? I have several of the cleaner and filter oils, and hope to use them on this set up if possible. If not, I will have probably enough of the Airaid products to last a few services. How often are you guys servicing yours?
