2013 Yukon Denali with RES - can I add OE DVD headrests

Hi all. I have a 2013 Yukon Denali with the factory RES installed. I'm looking to add the OE Dual Headrest DVD system (GM 22840272). I'm not worried at all that it does not 'integrate' with the current system (ie can't play DVD from head unit to the headrests). I just want to know if I can have it installed. My GM dealer says on they're end it says I can't install it. Specifically regarding the part:

Not for RPO's: U42
U42 - ENTERTAINMENT PKG REAR SEAT, SINGLE DISPLAY, REM CONTROL, AUX JACK, 2-WIRELESS DUAL CHANNEL HEADPHONES

I have U42, but I know I've seen pictures of RES with Dual Headrests as well. Any thoughts would help.

To answer your question, yes, you can put them (or any headrest) in. You just need power/ground/etc to put them in

OEM headrest DO NOT match up to anything in your SUV. They are a stand alone unit that only need power/ground from your truck. They have their own source (built in) and do NOT have an input our output. If you have skills in A/V equipment, you can get input/output out of them by taking them apart.

Does this mean that the wiring harness they include with the headrest DVDs would not work? Where would you suggest getting power and ground from? If there are no inputs or outputs necessary what would the etc be in addition to power and ground?

Also, do you think this thread on IR interference between RES and headrest DVD still applies?? How would you guys handle this if so?

I am SO interested in doing this, but just afraid I spend $1500 on the parts and then realize I can't handle it. I've done plenty of mods, but I'm always following someone else's thread to a T.

Not sure that they actually come with a harness. Someone else here can verify. All I know is there's a box (brain) on them that needs power and ground. You can probably pull that from behind the radio so they only come on when the radio is turned on, or you can get it under the dash (drivers side).

yes I would imagine that would apply. As far as getting around it, don't think you could do anything about it. No idea on how to "solve" it since the IR is the same signal for both.

Why do you need all the screens on watching different stuff? If you really need something like that, It can easily be done... with aftermarket headrest.

They give you a plug that goes under the driver footwell. These are a big waist of money. Get some quality tv headrests for half the price. Forget the gm ones.

I really only need two, not three. But headrests come in pairs. Honestly wish I never would have bought the RES, but sunroof and RES come as a pair with GMC. I really only want the headrests. As for the reason why I want headrests - ask anyone else that has a son and daughter that are 3 years apart that want DVD headrests.....my sanity.

I thought GM because they match well. Do aftermarkets match the GMC leather well?? I honestly have no idea as I've never done headrest DVDs. I'm a beginner to GMC and the obvious answer to me was OEM headrests, sounded simple and thought it would be plug and play. What is the most popular aftermarket DVD headrests that match the ebony interior of the Yukon??

Keep an eye on eBay...I bought the GM headrests (22840272) for $650...brand new in the box.

Installation is not difficult. The toughest part is removing the panels from the back of the seat. I broke one of the tabs and had to replace the panel which was another hundred bucks. Once the seatbacks are off you run the wire inside the seat, out the bottom (there is a hole in the seat frame) and under the inside seat track. Remove the center cubby/drink holder (easy - it pops out from the rear) and there is plenty of room to secure the control box.

The kit comes with a harness that plugs into the junction box to the left of the brake pedal. Plug it into the slot that is the 2nd from the bottom, on the left side. Everything else is color coded to plug into the main control box.

Realize I'm reviving this thread from the dead.....LOL. That said, my recent new to me '08 Denali has this system already in it. Any of you out there that have this system, do you have any type of owner/operator manual? Some of it is self explanatory, each can watch their own DVD or one monitor can piggy back off whatever is playing on the other. Or you can switch to the front AUX (RCA) inputs. But, pressing the Source button again switches the video to a screen that just says "CH 2". Is there some type of integrated tv tuner with these? I didn't get the remote control with the vehicle, just the headsets, so I'm limited to what I can do with the monitors to just the physical buttons on the front for now. Just trying to find a little more info on this system.
