While highway driving I passed a slower vehicle, and after seeing oncoming traffic a little closer than I had thought, I floored the gas pedal. It stayed down, stuck down to the floor, throttle wide open.
I passed the other car at about 150km/hr and was accelerating like a bat outta hell. I white-knuckled it back into my lane at about 165 and it was still roaring to go!.
My wife was curious... "Whatthehellareyoudoing??!!" she politely screamed as speeds increased rapidly.
Instinct caused me to brake, which did virtually nothing and I was about to redline.
I jammed my right foot under the pedal and furiously dug at the mechanism with the toe of my shoe and it finally released.
My next move would have been to turn off the ignition, but losing power steering and power brakes might have been an exacerbation of the situation.
I consider myself to blame for hitting the gas too hard in the first place, but I sure am thankful for how well that former RCMP Rocket tracked straight at those speeds and acceleration!
Other than a little driver re-education, is there any other preventative actions that anyone would suggest I can take to ensure this doesn't happen again?
Is it linkage issue or a driver issue?
