Lol, I waited until the very last possible moment so I could do everything at once. Just replaced upper and lower control arms on both sides as well as the hub assemblies. Was going to order regular old direct replacement ******** until I found this thread. Now I'm blowing money all over the place [emoji38]

Well here is my progress.

Cut off wheel on the angle grinder......takes about 2 mins to delete the hump.....on this hump day. Then clean up with my Milwaukee M12 die grinder with a 40 grit flapper wheel.

Hope to get these out to powder coating this week

So do you feel the caliper will still be stiff enough to not deflect with the big hump removed? Did you check the thickness after machining? GM put it there for a reason, maybe they had some crack under pressure?

Ok, so I didn't even need to remove the existing caliper to figure out this wasn't even close to working. My 2010 Tahoe Z71 with the factory 18 inch wheels had about .75 inch clearance between the wheel and original caliper, which is very generous. The original caliper measures approximately 3.5 inches from the mounting flange to the outer edge of the caliper closest to the wheel. The new 2019+ caliper measures approximately 4.75-4.875 inches from the mounting flange to the outer edge of the dreaded casting "bump". Looks like new wheels are going to need to go on here since I just bought new bfg ko2s. Pics attached. We need this info stored in a sticky or something, if possible

Well I took some measurements of my wheels........there is no way in hell I can run these with my current wheels unless I go with .50" spacer.......and I hate spacers.

I have shaved the hump and cleaned most of the casting flash up for powder coating......any offers. Since they're back on a national back order?

They would work if I went back to my stock wheels, but I'm not doing that.

Test fitted this fuel wheel today...worked no problema.
Ordered for a 2020 Silverado. 18x9 ET20
And good spoke spacing to highlight the calipers.
Finally I can move forward......gee.




My Z71 wheels did not clear the caliper with a 1/4" spacer but did easily with 1/2".
Its probably somewhere in between.
With 1/2" spacer the studs only ended up with about a lugnut worth of thread though....so would not run that except for storage
or at a body shop.

I'm gonna confirm fitment tomorrow evening I just got the test caliper he sent me. That fuel wheel with the big red brake behind it looks sexy as hell!

Yeah.....I think so too.
Not my original choice but happy with the outcome.
I hope it performs as well as it looks.
Should be done within a few days. And will report back.

Then I can move on to the engine.....
I might change there as well.....I may have figured out how to do the L86/10L90 swap in the 03.
That would totally blow my low budget resto out the window.
I need to do more homework after I finish the brakes.
