So here goes. I just picked up a 99 yukon the tranny only has first and second. I have looked all over and searched and cant find this answer. What I want to know is what year 4l80e can be used in this vehicle. I see all sorts of swap write ups but no info on years. Any information or help on the above problem would be great. btw truck is OBS, 4wd 1500 5.7 4door. if any other info is needed please ask and help.

If I'm not mistaken, 91-93 is a 4l60/700r4, u need the electronically controlled version, 95 and up I believe, someone will correct me if inaccurate.

The new trans has more of the updated parts in it so the rebuild should cost less. If you get the older one, you will have to buy more parts to bring it up to date. Don't forget you will need the trans controller to make it work

The 4L80E is a fully electronic transmission just the 4L60E. The 80E is just bigger and stronger. The 700r4 is the non electronic version before the 4L60E. To answer your question, It wont work without a controller. You can always do a TH400, but you would lose the OD. your Yukon should have the 4L60E. for about $1,500-$2,000 you can have a very durable trans built.

I dont understand why you want to go backwards to a 700R4. The 4L60E you have now can be built to a very good trans. Do you plan on over 500hp? Just have you current trans rebuilt by a quality shop. Make sure they put a new cage in it along with all of the updated hard parts and sun gears. you can even upgrade to replace the stock bushings with torrington bearings.
