No need really. My point was, what does a larger opening in the fender do when the opening thats there is already bigger than the mass air meter, throttle body, and associated tubing?

Its still a restriction, and in my case its exasperated by the cam. I’m going to be cutting that out in the fender, and lopping off all the intake resonators. The air raid modular intake tube would be ideal but its ~$145 more expensive than the big package of JB weld and I still have half a pack of dremel cut off disks from 5 years ago.
Obviously the restriction is mostly the diameter, and fluid dynamics states that the flow of the whole system is only as great as its smallest point, but still.
edit: and it is totally possible to do stuff like this, and make 0 additional horsepower, and help a decent bit with response! The ‘throttle blade mod’ on the vortec engines on the S10s is a great example.
