Cheers all, I am new to this site and this is my first post. So I just received my new MIT kit yesterday for my 2012 Yukon 5.3L, I plan to continue using AC Delco high capacity filters. I was doing some reading into older forums and maybe im confused, but people seem to be having mpg losses after installing this and said "to correct this its necessary to get a tune so the computer can take advantage". Is it possible they didnt either disconnect the battery for an hr to reset the ECU or maybe they like the sound and response so much their foot getts a little deaper into the accelerator? I havent installed mine yet, I was waiting for the weekend. However I have no plans to do any other performance mods to this vehicle only some minor exterior upgrades. My whole purpose in purchasing this was to help my off the line throttle response and maybe see a tiny increase in mpg. Does anyone just have the M.I.T. kit with or without a different filter but without a tune? If so what are your results. Thanks in advance for responses. I am eager to get this thing on but will hold off incase i am going to return this to amazon.

I put one on a couple of months ago. Can't say I had an increase or decrease as I put the thing on almost immediately after I got the truck. From what I understand, you need a tune (Blackbear is what lots of people go with) to get the most out of the intake. Fwiw, I just did a 1200+ mile round trip. I got 16.4mpg on the way due to wind and me going 80, but got around 19 on the way back due to awesome weather conditions. Overall it turned out to be around 16.5 mpg the whole trip because we also used my truck to drive around town a lot. I'll be getting a Blackbear tune within a week or so. I do have the 5.3. It does sound nice though. I can't say that I like the response, but the tune will take care of that. Oh, I am using the Airaid filter that was an option with the kit.

The stock ECU/tune will never compensate for the MIT. Disconecting the battery isn't the answer. It's been proven that any CAI mods don't do much on otherwise stock trucks. Conversely, a tuned truck with a stock intake will not like the change to a MIT all that much either. From my experience, you must tune for it to get much out of it.

I had the AIRAID MIT with the cone filter and noticed a loss in mpg when I had my 08 Tahoe. When I got it tuned, the MPG's stayed the same after the initial 1-2 mpg drop.

From Airraid

"Thank you for inquiry. The 200-996 tube you purchased was engineered on an otherwise stock vehicle with no tune. We do this to ensure that when a customer installs a part they can do so knowing that all fuel trims, etc remain in OE parameters and the customer will not encounter any runability issues. The dyno results we claim are gathered from testing several vehicles all with a stock tune. While it Is possible to gain more performance by doing an aftermarket tune on a vehicle, it is not necessary."

From Trusted GM employee at the assembley plan:

You don't need a tune with a cold air intake. The internet forums are wrong. The air still passes thru the MAF sensor and that tells the engine how much air is coming in. The baffles are for noise cancellation purposes.

I had the AIRAID MIT before and after a BlackBear tune and there's definitely a difference. In a good way too.
