its like a CB Radio but uses a totally different frequency set. 134.000Khz-174.990Khz I believe. Its what all the trophy trucks and off road vechiles use to communicate with their pits. I think the range goes a bit further too. I could easily talk to someone else with this same setup in their ride about 10-25miles away. Maybe even more, havent tried. This particular radio is a 50 watt. I also have a handheld that is a 5 watt and will go about 8-10 miles in a direct line of site.

Works for me. It also stores intermitten power so this helps out with your headlights not dimming while driving at night.
