Had a 17 Expedition rental for 10 days last Mo. Rode like a bouncy house until put in 4wd hi. Someone likely blew the struts on the way from WA to CA as the plates indicated. Is it just me or does the AWD soak up some of the terrain? If it does I’m a AWD junkie.

Not 100% sure but I believe you can lock the center diff. Top button: Full time 4wd with unlocked center diff. Middle button: Hi-range 4wd with locked center diff. Bottom button: Low range 4wd with locked center diff.

This was an optional 4wd system that was offered very briefly on the Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban and Yukon XL.

Unfortunately, finding information on it is extraordinarily difficult because if was a very limited time option and GM didn't publish much about it. I think it was called "stabilitrack" which is very confusing because their traction control system was called "Stabilitrak" (with no "c" before the k at the end.)

BTW here is another thread on the same topic:

https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/thr...-with-stabilitrack-awd-with-4lo-button.16579/

I've never seen a side-by-side comparison of the AWD system with the AutoTrac 4wd system (the one with the Auto 4wd feature) that is on most of our trucks, but I would imagine there wasn't much of an advantage to the AWD system over AutoTrac which is probably why GM dropped it after 2005 or 2006 and never offered it on any of the GMT-900 or K2XX trucks.

Interesting, I still have a bunch to learn about this truck. Ill try and read up on it in the manual if its in there.

My AWD Tahoe suits me fine in PA, the system has three open diffs with no way to lock. It relies on the brakes to be applied on any wheel spinning faster than the others. I'm starting to have some issues with the encoder motor and the inertia sensor now, at its age and miles 180K. The AWD system on mine has always been noisy. I've had both front and rear diffs rebuilt, the noise must be the transfer case.

Looks to me like AWD with a 2 speed transfer case. That top button is traction control on/off. If you push it, do you get a message or light about the stability system being off?

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU GOT (everything, its got):
Here are two GM RPO CODE MASTER LISTS,
https://www.silveradosierra.com/resources/file/3817
https://www.marshu.com/images-websi...codes/gm-firebird-camaro-GM-RPO-car-codes.pdf

You might have got the build sheet included with your vehicle, but probably not. There are several ways to contact GM to have them send you a copy so you know what every option is... Otherwise all your RPO codes (the individual codes that tell every option your vehicle has) is listed in your glovebox.

I spent some time once, went through, and made a list of mine:

From a quick scan it looks like suspension and driveline are F** and G** Codes. Transmission is an M** code, not sure if that might be your transfer case to answer it.
