Just trying to see what guys are getting mpg after a bbt and what are the mods u guys installing before getting tuned.

mine:07 tahoe 4x4 5.3 with full K&N cai everything else stock.

I simply trying to build a parts list to work on before spending the money to get tuned. I simply would like better mpg considering I drive like gramps.

Intake, lift, tires. Everything else is stock.

I live in CO so mpg is shit no matter how you slice it. Mountains are not conducive to great mileage. I average about 14 city, 16-18 highway with a 2" level and 285-70-17 NTG's/stock wheels. Driveability is really improved though...and that's really what it's all about. Not necessarily a huge power gain or mileage gain, the truck is just a ton more responsive and fun to drive.

The most common first mods are intake and a tune. Intake wise, it's been proven over and over that the stock airbox flows plenty of air, and it's cool air because it draws directly from the fenderwell. The bottleneck in the system is the tube because of all the baffling that GM adds to quiet the system down. So, most run the Airaid Jr. kit because it just replaces the tube and the stock paper filter with a reusable mesh filter. At $160ish it nets the best performance for the money, making the same amount of hp and torque as the full Volant kit that costs almost twice as much.

There aren't really any restrictions in the exhaust, so that can be left alone unless you like more sound. Replacing the stock muffler with a Maganaflow 12589 is popular, but again it's only for sound, not performance. I'll probably do that next because smallblock chevy V8's sound great when uncorked...but I keep buying guns instead so my budget is shot lol.

Oh know I drive like gramps. It's my laid back and going know place in a hurry ride that's why I was thinking I would get a little bit better mpg than I am.

Vic, how many miles are on your truck? That mileage does sound awfully low.

Might be time for new 02 sensors or something.
