I put in mobile 1 as soon as I get the vehicle, regardless what was in it before or the mileage on the clock.

Can anyone explain why once you go synthetic, you cant go back? I have heard several people say this. but I dont see why, nor do i agree. Can anyone techincally explain why?

I believe that may be a myth.

From Mobile 1's website for what its worth...

Question:
What Will Happen Switching From Synthetic Motor Oil to Conventional Oil
I have been in the mechanic business for 8 years and was always taught that you cannot go back to conventional oil from synthetic oil. I have seen the damage caused by going back to conventional. Is it true that you can switch back to conventional with no damage to your engine?

Answer:
Synthetic oils will provide better protection than conventional oils, but switching back and forth between full synthetic and conventional oil will not damage the engine. Of course, this depends on the current engine condition and the quality of the conventional oil being used.

Shell Rotella T6, did use mobil 1 but keeps burning oil or having to add. The shell T6 is some really good stuff and pretty cheap on the price from walmart.

So i just run what ever full syn. Is on sale. Mobil1, castrol, pens. I have 3 different motors, a gmc van, tahoe and a jetta. I have another question though.

How long do you run your filter? And if you run mobil 1 do you use a mobil 1 filter. I like the advaced auto yellow filters with the grippy surface. But i usually get the filter that comes with the oil deal.

Highland Park, IL. Transplant from SLC, UT to redu
Parts Master (bottled by Ashland, which is Valvoline's bottler/supplier) 5w30 synthetic with 1 quart substituted for Marvel Mystery Oil. Also use a Wix filter and change it out every oil change.

As for the question about switching to conventional from synthetic. There shouldn't be any problems with that. At least, that's what my reps from Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil, and Wix have all told me.

Amsoil signature series full synthetic with a wix filter. I'm a preferred customer, so that helps.
