Brake warning lights coming on

Got a code C0265. I guess I will try this tomorrow:

"ABS Light ON, DTCS C0265, C0201, U1041 SET AND/OR LOSS OF COMMUNICATION WITH BRAKE MODULE (REGROUND EBCM GROUND)"
Ref# 04-05-25-002A Date: April 22, 2004 this is a revised bulletin, disreguard #04-05-250002 (sec 05 brakes).

It says the CORRECTION from one bullitin to the REVISED is this:
"DO NOT REPLACE THE BRAKE MODULE"

Perform the following steps to improve the connection of the ebcm ground:
1) Remove the ebcm ground. The ebcm ground is located on the frame beneath the drivers side door. If multiple grounds are found in this location, the ebcm ground can be id'd as the heavy 12 guage wire.
2) clean the area front and back using a whiz wheel.
3) Install the bolt, ground and a star washer to the frame.
4) install a star washer and nut to the backside of the frame. tighten the nut to 9n.m or 79 lbs in.
5) cover the front and back side of the repair area using rubberized undercoating.


Okay, as I re-read this it doesn't say the ground comes directly out of the EBCM so I followed the frame forward and found two wires coming out of the wire bundle that includes the wires for the EBCM, these two ground to the frame. I took the bolt out and used my Dremel to get to bare metal on the frame and the front and back of both grounding rings. I don't have any rubberized undercoating but then it didn't seem to have any on it in the first place. I'll let you know if the brake warning lights still come on.

Damnit. Either those were not the right wires or that's not my problem, the warning lights are still coming on.

Same thing happened to me saturday. Found the same two wires, cleaned them up real good, and then the lights came back on sunday morning. Looks like I will be hitting up the salvage yards for a used ebcm.

Hope you guys' fixes are cheaper than my $600 fix...
Apparently, this is a common problem among GM's. Even the Vettes have this issue.

That revised bulletin came out a couple years before I had the problem. Of course, the Stealership didn't tell me there was a service bulletin.

Mine actually ran fine with no noticeable problems. Dealer just told me that one day my brakes could be fine, the next I would have nothing. At that time, they had only seen a couple of these sensors bad. I would assume now, 4 years later, they have seen more of this same issue.

What goes wrong with the ABS Unit?

Problems relating to the pump constantly running is most usually caused by a faulty part within the ABS EBCM. This is not necessarily something that you have caused. Inside of the EBCM is a semiconductor that has failed and is telling the pump to turn on and never turn off... There is nothing that can be done at this point except for removing the 60Amp fuse located in the fuse compartment under the hood. The only way to repair this unit is to replace the bad part. This is rarely anything the average person can do. Repairing this unit involves unsoldering 6 solenoids and about 30 or so solder connections before removing the PC board that contains the faulty part. After that, their is a surface mount transistor that is removed and then replaced by a new one. Everything is then reassembled and tested.

Can further damage be caused?

It is very rare to see further damage than the damaged transistor. One thing to consider is to make sure to remove the 60Amp fuse in the fuse compartment under the hood to prevent pump from operating and running down your battery. Not only will you have a dead battery, but your pump doesn't like to be operated for more than a few seconds at a time.

Can I drive my vehicle without the EBCM?

Yes, you can operate your brakes and drive like normal. If you do plan to remove your EBCM for service, cover the exposed pump block with some plastic sheeting and secure with duct tape or equivalent.

So if I follow this, I can remove the fuse and just drive w/out the ABS, old school like? I'm not in a position to fix the ebcm right now.

Guess what came on today?!? My ABS and Park Brake Lights!!!

I am going to dump this thing faster than you can say "I got the squirts!!"

Between this and needing a new transfer case, I am about fed up with this thing.

Does anyone know how to remove the "ding" or "chime" on the 03 and up yukons and tahoes. I think i may just pull the lights and disable the chime if i can for the time being.
