Now there is a good idea.

I have a PDF from another user where they did that to a '96 Tahoe. The did want you to buy some pricey conversion harness thou.

I have been reading about the swaps at fullsizechevy, the harness is $450,but you can get a engine w/harness and do it yourself.

lots of good info there.

Yup, parked it today and uncovered my baby. Inspection is up tomorrow and it needs work, I know this. So I am waiting on a few things to come through, all goes well a new motor will be in by Halloween. So the purpose of my thread: what should I do for a motor? This will be a daily driver, road trip truck and so on for my family, not a toy so much. So opinions? Right now I have a basic BB tune and stock everything. When I do the motor a new muffler will be going on also and I need to get cracking on an intake. So let me here what everyone thinks and the first one to say a blown 572...GTFO unless you are going to hook me up.

You mentioned DD and road trip vehicle. From that alone I would think a 350 or 383 Crate motor would be the easiest routes, and a lot can be done without killing the wallet initially, at the pump and down the line. Easy to work on both and parts avail everywhere. I'm coming from the thinking that if it were my family and the wife got stuck because I tried to do something crazy, I would never hear the end of it!

On the stupid side, I would say the 9.3L 572CID Crate motor from Summit. It's only 17k!

If your doing this for your wife... why not just put another 350 or put a mild 383 in the burb for her... They are reliable, and they can be made to have alot of power later on if plans changed. Yea it would really cool to put a 572 in there, but really spend 17k on just a motor... thats to much for me. lol! a diesel swap would be tight! im contemplating doing the same thing to mine, just havent looked into all of it price wise.

Has a top end tap and a bottom end knock and a new noise I am yet to figure out. Under heavy throttle or up a good hill it sounds like it is about to come apart. It has 116K on the motor and I am not going to put much money into fixing a problem that a new motor will fix for not too much money.

Is she a good driver? If not then just get the cheapest 350 you can find lol. Jk why don't you get a cummins diesel and make it work? Might be a pita but it would be nice and I love the sound of those engines:)

I say it is her truck but she has only driven it once in the last 9 months. I can tell you trying to get teh baby into the car seat in the back of my tahoe is NO fun. I am getting this thing inspected on Monday and the guys are going to run a pressure test on the cylinders to give me an idea of how they are. My mechanic is excited to finally see my burban!

you know if you put a 350 in it at some point you will be kicking yourself for not going with the 383, especially since its already tuned. 383 and a reflash! burbans a heavy truck, a little more power may even help out the MPG's on it if you can keep your foot out of the "wife's" truck! haha

when its time for a new engine in the Hoe im going to break down and go with a HT383 as well if it has a body left..:emotions122::emotions122::emotions122: it needs to stop being a ****** and let me spend this money on getting the rockers done before it turns into a lost cause... :emotions122:
