383 with a vortec supercharger or similar....maybe small Wieand blower etc..You could add and easy 100hp to the 383 and still be completely driveable and get decent fuel mileage to boot because the truck will move effortlessly...

I would say 454 since they came factory at one point. No real screwing around to get it to fit etc. Jegs has some nice deals on some nice 454's.

build up the 350 and whipple it. Whipples can add more mpgs on the freeway which everyone is really looking for now a days. They provide great power and deff wont kill your bank. Dont go crazy with the boost, but just enough to really scoot it around town..
