DIY: High Flow Stock Airbox (Swiss Cheese Mod)

I did this mod this weekend and I can definitly tell the difference. I ended up only drilling 3 1.5" holes on the bottom angled section. I stole the pic from the first page of the thread to show where I drilled mine.

Just put my K&N drop-in, in. Didnt really notice much difference from first gear. Second gear has tons of pull now.

I did this a couple days ago, minus the dryer vent.

Did up the swiss-cheese mod really good. I didn't have a very big bit, so I made a LOT of little holes...lol. Threw a K&N drop-in in there, and voila.

For essentially $60 for the filter, there's a very noticeable difference. I notice it most right on the gas from a stop, and if I drop a gear to pass at highway speeds. A lot more immediate pull then before. If you listen close, you can hear a little whine as it sucks the air in, but didn't notice much difference in exhaust tone on stock pipes. Maybe a little, but it could have just been psychological.

Either way, good cheap mod!!

I did it earlier this week... cleaned my K&N with it and went out for a drive... gives alittle more sound and defiantly has alittle more pull... i already had the K&N so it was a good free mod...

Just Finished.

I did Plugs, Wires, Fuel Filter and a new Rush Drop in Air Filter with the Swiss Cheese Mod. I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with this Mod! It's really easy (<10 minutes), really cheap (Free), and it provides some pretty impressive gains across the entire spectrum. You can tell she's no longer suffocating. Great Idea OP! Thanks for sharing!

Drilled about 15 1" holes, sounds different and drives different. Throttle response is a little better. I am about to hit the parts store to upgrade my filter, well see if that helps any./ Right now everything is help for me...dragging around some 800lbs of stereo put's a toll on the poor truck.

Man it seems like alot of you guys are doing this now. Guess i might have to try it out. Just drill some holes on the dirty side, the bottom right? Does it need to be below the air filter or can it be like on it? if that makes sense.

Well got bored today and went at it. Very easy to do, if you have the tools.. But heres a pic of mine. Havent gone anywhere except to store, my mind noticed better response, but store is too close... 4 big holes, and some smaller ones around it..

Go and throw some small computer fans in the bottom air box to push cooler air thru the holes of your stock air box. I've got 2 fans in my "space". One pushing air up from the wheel well, and another pushing air directly at the filter from the original hole. Alittle different since I have a CAI. But pulling air from under neath the car instead of inside is much better, this is a easy mod for a stock look. I diffenently notice less heat soak when sitting at stops with the fans running. I need to get some pics.
