Mechanical pressure gauge on the rail if it were me. You can see if it primes and holds or if it bleeds off to quick. Do you know for sure when it's not gonna start? If so, next time, instead of cranking it, just turn the key to on for a few seconds a couple of times in a row first, i.e., cycle the pump a couple times. Then try to start it.
Ya I tried a pressure test but O'Rileys was broken and I do cycle it on to prime the fuel pump, it will start but after 3 seconds of cranking and it spudders to an idle. But once at idle it's good.
